A Magic Town since 2001, Huasca de Ocampo is a small town with just over 15,000 residents. The town is located near Pachuca in the state of Hidalgo. One of the highlights of visiting Huasca de Ocampo is strolling the lovely cobblestone streets of the historic center past colorful buildings with red rooftops. Must-see attractions located in the town center include the Church of Saint John Baptist and the Husaca de Ocampo Cultural Center which dispays art and handicrafts from the region.
Other popular attractions in Huasca de Ocampo include San Miguel Regla Park, the spectacular rock formations at Prismas Basálticos and El Arquito, the Barrancas de Aguacatitla and Meztitlan Biosphere Reserve, Santa Ana Farm, Peña del Aire Canyon, San Antonio Dam, Zemba Forest and the San Juan Hueyapan and Santa Maria Regla Haciendas.
While in Huasca de Ocampo visitors can enjoy a wealth of outdoor sports and recreational activities including hot-air ballooning, four-wheeling, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, waterfall trekking, boating and canyoning.
Many visitors to the region choose to camp outdoors at one of the town’s designated campsites and swimming at the local balnearios is another favorite activity. The local Feria de San Juan Bautista takes place each year in late June. The festival is celebrated with an impressive fireworks display set-off from traditional fireworks castles.
