This afternoon I took a walk over to The Green Corner in the Condesa neighborhood of Mexico City. The Green Corner is a chain of organic groceries with adjoining cafes in Mexico City. There are locations in Condesa, Polanco, Coyoacán and Cuajimalpa. The Green Corner carries a variety of organic foods, wine and household products including harder to find items such as Tofuneza, which I have yet to see anywhere else in the city. As you can probably imagine, you’ll spend more money shopping here than you would in the neighborhood markets, but it’s great to know that we have the option of organic and veggie/vegan varieties of traditional products here in Mexico City.
While I was there I picked up a package of six fresh veggie burgers for 50 pesos (around $4). I’m planning to pair them with some fresh veggies from the market and whole wheat pita.
Since finishing up last week’s tortilla soup with pinto beans I’ve been looking forward to making a new batch. I had been planning to do that tonight although my trip out to Condesa took longer than expected and I didn’t make it to the market in time. Instead I stopped off at Super Mikasa for some veggie spring rolls and rice pasta.

Thanks for the tip about a restaurant with veggie/vegan options, as a vegetarian traveler it’s hard sometimes to find a good place to eat.
That’s so true. Fortunately, Mexico City has a good variety of options for vegetarians. I’d also recommend checking out HappyCow.net, it’s a great resource for finding veggie friendly restaurants in cities around the world.
