Weekly open-air markets, or tianguis, can be found all across Mexico City and the weekends are an especially popular time to browse a variety of art and specialty markets.
The Corredor de Arte Colonia Roma is a weekend open-air art market that stretches along Avenida Álvaro Obregón in Mexico City’s colonia Roma Norte. The atmosphere is casual and the vendors wait for you to approach them, meaning you can relax and take your time browsing the various offerings without feeling pressured to buy anything.
On display are a variety of crafts, paintings, photographs and prints at various price points. There’s also a good selection of antiques and collectibles including antique cameras, pop culture collectibles, used books and magazines, antique furniture and more.
And if you need a little pick-me-up, there are several interesting coffee shops and cafés located along the avenue. Café Libélula (Álvaro Obregón 10) is one of my favorites.

My favourite street in all of Mexico City! I spent many, many Saturday afternoons wandering up and down it, checking out the tat! If you ever pass the stall selling fake tattoo sleeves, Camel cigarette art memoribilla and metal ciggy packets, do say hello to the chap from me…
There are so many fabulous side streets to explore as well. I miss DF
I know exactly the stall you’re talking about! And I agree, it’s such a fun area to explore. We live close enough that we can walk there with the dogs (we have two now!), which I really enjoy. Next time you’re back in town we’ll have to grab a coffee!!
Ernesto is his name, and we used to chat for an hour or so on Saturdays about football. His English is excellent! Nice chap.
Coffee sounds good. But it’ll probably have to wait till 2012
You sold me when you said, “take your time browsing the various offerings without feeling pressured to buy anything. ” Perfect for a lazy, spring, weekend day.
That’s exactly it!
