This is a guest post by Katherine Robinson. Katherine Robinson is a freelance writer who enjoys writing about her travel experiences which may be useful to other travellers.

Chicharrón is a dish which is eaten not only in Mexico, but also in many Latin American countries and even in the south of Spain. Chicharrón is fried pork rind and each country has its own way of preparing it. Chicharrón is widely available in Mexico and one of the country’s most popular snacks or dishes.

What is Chicharrón?

Chicharrón is pork which has been seasoned and fried and after this process it is known as pork rind, so Chicharrón refers to the way the pork is prepared or quite simply pork rinds. In Mexico, pork rinds are usually eaten in tacos or corn cakes called gorditas which are often served with green salsa. Pork rinds are even eaten as snacks in Mexico and can be purchased very inexpensively from street food vendors.

Where does it originate from?

Chicharrón is eaten all over Mexico and I recommend you sample it because it is a very typical dish and also very tasty. If you’ve never tried chicharrón, be sure to do so before you catch your flight home from Mexico. Perhaps your airline tickets don’t entitle you to an in-flight meal, well that’s as good an excuse as any to fill up on chicharrón before you travel.
