México Today

in México Today

“Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” – Maya Angelou

I originally started Go Mexico Guide because I wanted to change people’s perceptions about Mexico and share the truth about living and traveling here. I hoped that in doing so I would also help to ease any concerns or fears that my family and friends may have had about my decision to live in Mexico City. Most of all, I wanted to show that the vast majority of Mexico is not the violent and dangerous place that it’s portrayed to be in much of the mainstream media, but rather a beautiful and safe place to visit.

What I hadn’t anticipated early on were all of the fantastic opportunities that would come my way as a result of writing this blog. I’ve met lots of interesting people, both online and in person, I’ve had the chance to attend some really great events, my work has been featured on other blogs and websites and most recently I’ve been invited to assume the role of contributing writer for México Today:

México Today, in association with Marca País – Imagen de México, is a joint public and private sector initiative designed to help promote Mexico as a global business partner and an unrivaled tourist destination. This program is designed to shine a light on the Mexico that its people experience every day.

In this new role I’ll have the opportunity to work alongside a team of Mexico enthusiasts to help promote tourism to the country I now call home. I’m honored to have been invited to participate, and humbled to be part of a group that includes such recognized food and travel writers as Cristina Potters, Jim JohnstonMaura Hernandez, Brad A Johnson, Craig Zabransky and Susie Albin-Najera — many of whom I’ve admired since I first arrived in Mexico. As program ambassadors we’ll be sharing our own experiences and working together to help promote a more positive image of Mexico.

You can find out more about all of the México Today ambassadors right here.

The México Today official kick-off event is scheduled to take place this weekend in Oaxaca. Interestingly, Oaxaca is where I first began my Mexico adventures back in 2008 and also where I rang in my first New Year abroad, so it seems only fitting that I would end up back there now to begin work on this new project.

As the project moves forward I’ll be posting information and links to all of the articles, so be sure to subscribe for updates and follow along on Facebook and Twitter.

Disclosure: I am being compensated for my work as a contributor for the México Today program. I am also being invited on an all-expenses paid trip to Oaxaca as part of my role; my opinions, as always, are my own.
