What is flying on the lines above the street? symbolic?
It’s called papel picado in Spanish, which translates to “perforated paper.” It’s a Mexican folk art and popular holiday decoration. I see it all the time in Mexico, used as decoration at festivals, markets, churches, etc. You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papel_picado
This is a very cool photo in so many ways — love the shadow of the papel picado on the street and their blue/white colors against the blue/white sky. Excellent!
Thanks Cathy! The feria in Huamantla was spectacular, so many great photo ops! The shadows are what I really like about this shot as well!
Great pic! I love Papel Picado, I think it is so beautifu.. If I had it my way, I would decorate my whole house in it, haha!
I love papel picado too! The streets all throughout the town were decorated with it and I was so afraid that it might rain and ruin everything, but fortunately it didn’t. Although, it did get a bit chilly at night!
This is a lovely photo. It makes me happy. Thank you!
I’m glad you like it!
Beautiful photo!
Thank you!
I love the colors they used for the papel to imitate the colors of the sky. It blends perfectly. I imagine also that the shadows provide some greatly needed shade in that hot environment. What a great idea!
I agree, it was really lovely! And the weather was perfect, hot during the day and cool in the evening.
What a great photo!
Thanks Stephanie!
Beautiful!
I love the pastel shades in this photo! They should have papel picado year round
Thanks Audrey, I agree!
